Why Every Ancestor?

Because I believe that it's important to understand as much as we can about all of our ancestors.  It's not just about how many names we can add to our trees.  All of our ancestors have been important in our lives and have contributed to what we are today.

And....... my grand-mother's maiden name was Every!

What do I get in a package?

There are four packages available: Seedling; Sapling; Willow and Oak.  They all look at different aspects of your family tree. Click here to see full details.

The Seedling, Sapling and Willow packages are all flexible and may be expanded at a time to suit you to create the Oak package.

How far will you be able to trace my Family?

The Seedling package is designed as a starter project and aims to trace your grand-parents and great grand-parents on both your father and mother's side.  This should produce a mini family tree showing eight great-grand parents.  It depends on your age how far back these will be, for example, if you are 50 years old you may find great grand-parents born around 1900.  If you're tracing your tree for one of your parents aged say 70, you may find their great grand-parents born about 1870-1880.

The other packages aim to trace one, two or four lines of your tree back as far as practical without specialist research.  I would hope to find your ancestors on the 1841 census which should show members of your family born early 1800s or even 1790s.  From this I would investigate further but there's no guarantee that records are available before this time.

How much will it cost?

Packages are available to suit your budget and the Seedling, Sapling and Willow packages may be added to at any time.  You have 2 choices of how to receive the results of the research - electronically will be cheaper but it is available in a presentation package if you wish. Click here for full details of prices.

What's included?

Whether you choose to receive your family history electronically or in a presentation pack, you will receive the same information:

  • A written report giving details by generation of your family.  Where available this will include siblings but I cannot guarantee to list all siblings as many died young and would require a more detailed research to find. Click here to see a sample report.

  •  A family tree. Click here to see a sample tree of a sapling package.

  • Copies of all birth, baptism, marriage or death certificates I have used in the research. In the case of birth, baptism and marriage certificates these will include details of parents, addresses and often the father's occupation. Click here to see a sample.

  • Copies of all census reports I have used in the research.  These will show all occupants of the household at the time together with relationships, addresses, ages, where they were born. Click here to see a sample.

  • A report describing the occupation or daily life of one of your ancestors.  Click here to see a sample.

  • Copies of any other documentation I've come across during the research.  These may include service records, wills, apprentice records etc.

  • The history of the surname of one of your ancestors.  .

  • Suggestions on how to take your research further.

  • Where available, a copy of a map of the area where some of your ancestors lived. If you have ordered the presentation package you will also receive all the above on a CD at no extra cost.

  • Optional extra - a gedcom file on a CD (£30) to enable you to upload all the details to family tree software or website in order to continue your research or share with other members of your family.

 How do I pay?

The easiest way to pay is via the PayPal secure site.  You do not need a PayPal account in order to pay by this method, just a valid debit or credit card. I will send you an invoice by email which contains instruuctions on how to pay.

If you prefer not to use PayPal, please contact me to arrange to pay by cheque or bank transfer.

How will I receive the results of the research?

The bulk of the cost of the packages is in the time spent researching and the cost of purchasing certificates from the General Register Office (currently £9.25 each). However, in order to make the packages more flexible, I offer two alternatives so that you can chose the most convenient and cost effective for you.

You may choose to receive the results of the research electronically in which case I will email you a Zip file which will contain all the documents produced in the research.  This will include pdf files containing the report and tree and copies of any certificates or census documents found.  The Zip file will be password protected and the password will be sent in a separate email for security purposes together with instructions on how to un-zip the file.  This option is of course cheaper as it eliminates the need to print documents at source, provide a presentation folder and pay for the postage. It also enables you to print as many copies as you wish for family members or to email the package to them.  Any certificates (birth, marriages or death) purchased would be scanned and included to complete the package.  The originals would be sent to you in the post.

If you prefer you may receive your tree in a presentation package which will include all reports and documentation printed on quality paper and your tree printed on parchment paper. This will also include all files on a CD at no extra cost.  If you choose the optional extra of a gedcom file, this will be included on a CD.  This option is ideal if you are commissioning the research as a gift.

How long will it take?

You should allow 6 - 8 weeks for the Seedling and Sapling packages; 2 - 3 months for the Willow and 4 - 5 months for the Oak.

During this time I will keep you informed of my progress and whether I envisiage any delays.  Of course research may be completed before this time, these are only estimates.

If you need research done in less time, please let me know as it may be possible to produce something quicker and maybe add to it when time allows.

Gift Certificates.

Gift Certificates are available which make ideal presents or allow you to enable someone to start their research.  They are available for the complete price of any of the packages, or for a specified amount towards the cost of any of the packages. Click here for more details.
